Adept Carpentry’s Charitable Partnership with Hugo Charitable Trust in Queenstown

Adept Carpentry’s Charitable Partnership with Hugo Charitable Trust in Queenstown

At Adept Carpentry, giving back to the community we are proud to be part of is deeply important to us. We are honoured to announce our partnership with the Hugo Charitable Trust, where we now serve as the official maintenance team for the Trust’s accessible home in Queenstown.

This partnership is especially meaningful because of our personal connection to the Trust. A member of our family, who lives with a disability, has stayed at the Trust’s accessible home on several occasions. Through visiting her during those stays, we witnessed firsthand the comfort, dignity, and independence the home provides. Seeing the positive impact it had on her experience in Queenstown gave us a genuine appreciation for the Trust’s work and inspired us to offer our carpentry and maintenance services in support of its mission.

About the Hugo Charitable Trust

The Hugo Charitable Trust was founded in 2017 by Maryanne Green to continue the philanthropic legacy of her father, Hugh Green. Following his passing in 2012, Maryanne established the Trust to honour his lifelong commitment to supporting the poor and disadvantaged throughout New Zealand.

Hugh Green and his business partner, Barney McCahill, built Green & McCahill into one of New Zealand’s largest private civil construction companies. Hugh’s entrepreneurial success enabled him to create meaningful opportunities for others, and that same spirit of generosity now underpins the Trust.

Today, the Hugo Charitable Trust focuses on supporting people with disabilities and investing in community driven initiatives across New Zealand. The Trust has provided millions of dollars in funding to projects that make a tangible difference, including:

  • Supporting infrastructure initiatives such as partnerships with the Wakatipu Trails Trust and Glenorchy Trails Trust

  • Funding programmes that assist individuals facing financial and social challenges, with a strong focus on creating opportunity and long term impact

Under the leadership of Maryanne Green and a dedicated board of trustees, the Trust continues to honour Hugh Green’s legacy through thoughtful and impactful giving.

The Trust has provided millions of dollars in funding to initiatives that make a tangible difference, such as:

  • Supporting infrastructure projects, like the work with the Wakatipu Trails Trust and Glenorchy Trails Trust.

  • Donating to causes that help individuals facing financial and social challenges, with a focus on creating opportunities for people who are often overlooked.

Adept Carpentry’s Role with the Hugo Charitable Trust

As the Trust’s maintenance team, we are responsible for caring for the accessible home located on the edge of Lake Hayes. This home offers short term stays for people with disabilities and their families, providing a safe and thoughtfully designed environment from which to experience Queenstown.

The property allows guests to enjoy the region’s natural beauty and local attractions without the common barriers that can make travel difficult. It is a space built around comfort, accessibility, and peace of mind.

Our role is to ensure the home remains well maintained, safe, and fully functional so it can continue serving as a valuable resource for those who rely on it. We take great pride in contributing to the upkeep of a property that offers such meaningful support to visitors and their families.

Why This Partnership Matters to Us

This partnership is more than a professional commitment, it is personal. Having seen the difference the home has made for someone close to us, we are grateful for the opportunity to give back in a practical and lasting way.

The Hugo Charitable Trust plays an important role in providing dignity, comfort, and independence to people with disabilities. Supporting that work aligns closely with our values at Adept Carpentry: quality workmanship, community involvement, and making a positive impact where it truly matters.

We are proud to stand alongside the Hugo Charitable Trust and contribute to a legacy of generosity that continues to strengthen our community.
